Fraud Prevention: It’s important to arm yourself with awareness and the right information to help protect yourself and others from digital fraud.

Tip: If Autodeposit is not set up, use a strong password using a mix of letters, numbers and special characters. Make sure you share the answer to the security questions via a safe channel like phone or in person.

We waive the INTERAC e-Transfer fee when you transfer using your HSBC Canadian dollar chequing or savings account. It is free to receive an INTERAC e-Transfer.

For accounts with a limited number of free transactions, regular transaction fees may apply if you perform an INTERAC e-Transfer over the number of transactions allowed.

Your INTERAC e-Transfer is covered by our Security Guarantee. When you send money using INTERAC e-Transfer, your money never travels by email or text message. Email and text messages are only used to notify and provide instructions to the recipient.

How do I send an INTERAC e-Transfer?

In mobile banking

Log on to the app and select ‘Move Money’ > ‘INTERAC e-Transfer’
Select the account you are transferring from and the contact you are sending to, enter an amount and select ‘Continue’.
Review the details, and then confirm it.

In online banking

Log on and select ‘INTERAC e-Transfer’.
In ‘Send money’, select the account you are transferring from and the contact you are sending to, enter an amount and select ‘Continue’.
Review the transfer, and then confirm it.

In mobile banking

Log on to the app using face/fingerprint ID or your Digital Security Device password.
Select ‘Move Money’ > ‘INTERAC e-Transfer’.
Select the ‘…’ or ‘⋮’ (top right).
Select the ‘+’.
Enter your contact’s details.
Review the details and save.

In online banking

Log on with your security device.
Select ‘INTERAC e-Transfer’.
Select ‘Contacts’ (on the left).
Scroll down and select ‘Add contact’.
Enter your contact’s details.
Review the details and confirm.

You’ve now added your contact and can send them an e-Transfer right away. Your contact has also been added to your ‘My payees’ list and you’ll be able to find them when you initiate an e-Transfer through ‘Pay or transfer’ in Online Banking or ‘Move money’ in the mobile app.

INTERAC e-Transfer is a fast, secure and convenient way to send money to anyone who has a Canadian currency account at a Canadian financial institution. You can send money via the recipient’s email address or mobile phone number in Canada, without sharing any financial information.

Note: This service is only available in Canadian dollars and for accounts at Canadian financial institutions.

No. It’s free to send and receive an INTERAC e-Transfer. Regular transaction fees may apply depending on your account package, even if the transfer is received, cancelled, declined, expired, or the recipient fails to answer the security question correctly. See Personal Service Charges / Statement of Disclosure.

No. While you can send or receive an INTERAC e-Transfer from anywhere in the world, funds sent by INTERAC e-Transfer must be in Canadian dollars and must be deposited into an account at a Canadian financial institution.

If you’re sending 7,000 CAD or less to someone with a Canadian bank account, you can send a free INTERAC e-Transfer.

In mobile banking:

Log on to the app.
Select ‘Move Money’ > ‘INTERAC e-Transfer’.
Select ‘…’ or ‘⋮’ (top right) > ‘Autodeposit’.
Select ‘+’ and enter your details to register.
Read and check the box next to ‘Important Information’ and then select ‘Confirm’.

In online banking:

Log on.
Select ‘INTERAC e-Transfer’ > ‘Autodeposit’.
Select ‘Register your details’.
Enter your details.
Read and accept the ‘Important information’, and then select ‘Confirm’.

For both Autodeposit in both Mobile and Online Banking:

Once you’ve confirmed your Autodeposit details, your request will be sent to INTERAC.
You’ll then get an email or text asking you to complete the registration within 24 hours.

Once you’ve completed your Autodeposit registration, anytime someone sends you an INTERAC e-Transfer to the registered email address or mobile number, the money will be deposited directly into your account and you’ll be notified immediately.

You can de-activate an email address or mobile number registered for Autodeposit in both Mobile and Online Banking.

In mobile banking:

Log on to the app.
Select ‘Move Money’ > ‘INTERAC e-Transfer’.
Select ‘…’ or ‘⋮’ (top right) > ‘Autodeposit’.
Next to the relevant email or mobile number, select the ‘…’
Select ‘Edit’ or ‘Delete’.
Confirm your changes.

In online banking:

Log on to Online Banking.
Select ‘INTERAC e-Transfer’ > ‘Autodeposit’.
Select the relevant email or mobile number.
Under ‘More’, select the ‘…’.
Select ‘Edit’ or ‘Delete’.
Confirm your changes.

Log on to Online Banking.
Select ‘INTERAC e-Transfer’ > ‘Request Money’.
Select the contact you are requesting money from, and enter the amount and date.
Select your account in which you want the money to be deposited.
Select ‘Continue’.
Review the details of your request and check the box next to ‘Important information’, and confirm your request.

Once the recipient has fulfilled your request, the money will be deposited into your account and you will be notified immediately.

Log on to Online Banking.
Select ‘INTERAC e-Transfer’ > ‘Pending INTERAC e-Transfer’ > ‘Pending requests’
Find the relevant request, and under ‘More’, select ‘…’
Select ‘View’, ‘Edit’ or ‘Cancel’, make your changes, and then confirm.
